a new impuls for the city
Hoogeveen is a primary shopping destination in Drenthe, which attracts shoppers and tourists from the wider region. REDscape developed a new master plan for the public space of the center, including the shopping street (3h) of Hoogeveen.
With the redevelopment of the Hoofdstraat in Hoogeveen the center finally gets the attention it deserves. The new design elaborates on the special identity of this tough city. The spatial relationship between the former canal, the street and the facades is restored by replanting the trees on the former quays.
In the vision of REDscape it becomes more compact, more atmospheric and enjoyable. The design is based on sustainability principles, making the area resistant to future climate conditions.
Insight into the need for a new city center is essential for developing the right design. A night walk with entrepreneurs, various plenary workshops with stakeholders, residents and experts from the municipality of Hoogeveen resulted in several perspectives for the design of the public space in Hoogeveen. This co-creative model, developed by REDscape, has ensured that stakeholders have a real chance to shape the design of their city as it develops.
