A runaway success
Since opening the hostel in June, local entrepreneur and train fan Harry De Boer has succeeded in achieving his dream and created a train lodge. The recycled train has been converted to a hostel for tourists. REDscape developed the design for the public realm together with the city of Amsterdam. Inspired by train depots and their mix of gravel, colourful informal planting and long curving lines, REDscape designed the setting for the city’s first train lodge. The perennial planting ties in with the colour scheme of the trains and adds a new buzz to this otherwise monofunctional location. The city of Amsterdam has started a new programme of initiatives to enliven the district which is transforming into an increasingly attractive location for residential and commercial activities.
Planning a weekend in Amsterdam with friends, then hitch a ride to the train lodge for a novel stay. See the website for booking information.
