Meester de Boerlaan delivers a vision to downgrade traffic, upgrade sustainable mobility, activate the public realm, and add biodiversity into the city’s infrastructure.
De Meester H.F. de Boerlaan has become an important development axis in the city. In the Havenkwartier, the Meester H.F. de Boerlaan has a fascinating mix of functions for living-working homes, student housing, workplaces, breeding grounds and hospitality. The new organization of the Meester H.F. de Boerlaan must form the appearance of the renewed Havenkwartier and will transform the Havenkwartier inside out with window display function. The redesign is an important impulse to the revitalization of this and other adjacent areas.
The redesign of the Master H.F. de Boerlaan proposes a profile with separate carriageways with a wide green central reservation. The roadability of the road will become safer and the amount of greenery in the street will increase as a result. The coherence of the Knutteldorp side and the Havenkwartier side along the Meester H.F. de Boerlaan as a whole can be improved. The connectedness of the two sides thus reinforces the historical ensemble that they form. At several places along the renewed city axis there will be room for art and initiatives from the surrounding neighborhoods. The redesign provides a cultural impulse that will strengthen redevelopment along the axis.
By applying the new traffic structure there will in time be a decrease in traffic along the Meester H.F. the Boerlaan. The area along Knutteldorp will become quieter and safer by slightly widening the sidewalk and linking the parking to the road. The risk of cars on the sidewalk will be a thing of the past and only cyclists will be allowed on the cycle path.
