A CLEAN WATER SYSTEM FOR AMENITY AND ECOLOGY IN CITY PARK.
The team of REDscape and Dingeman Deijs Architects in collaboration with ABT engineers have been selected as runner ups for the Viander Park masterplan by the Flemish Architects’ Office. The design proposal developed a clean water system for amenity and ecology, while retaining and adapting existing lakes, ponds and buildings. A wider vision extended the park into a regional green park for the city’s water storage in combination with existing fruit production.
LIVING ON TOP OF THE NETHERLAND’S NEWEST CLIMATE DIKE!
Our open space design for a residential enclave on the Climate Dike, Reeve in Kampen combines contemporary village living with a biodiverse, green setting.
Imagine living on top of the Netherland’s newest climate dike! The design is inspired by hybridising two traditional Dutch typologies of villages for dikes and terps in a concept called ‘dijkerp’. The internal courtyard space is informal, intimate and child friendly. Play routes, neighbourhood meeting points with picnic tables and sidewalk gardens are coupled with ‘ garden days’ to enhance community building. The edges of the enclave are planted with semi wild hedges on slopes which offer privacy to residents without disrupting views to the surroundings.

CREATING GREEN STREETS FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY IN CITIES
George’s Street, Mitchelstown.
REDscape’s design for George’s Street (0,5 km) transforms a busy thoroughfare into a green street with active traffic, and is an example of how city centers can be adapted to be safer, to be more inclusive and attractive to residents. The vision was developed jointly as part of a wider active travel proposal to the Georgian Quarter in Mitchelstown, together with local stakeholders and Cork County Council, who recently approved the proposal for formal planning.

PROMOTING SOFT CITIES
Resilient systems for rainwater storage and greener cities
REDscape was pleased to host an Irish delegation of city experts this week in the Netherlands to visit a cross section of Sustainable Urban Drainage projects. The challenge to develop up to 60mm rainstorm capacity as green public realm is the objective. Projects included over 25 urban city and suburban projects in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Arnhem to demonstrate successes and learnings. The weather couldn’t have been worse (the wettest November on record) which is exactly what we needed. The visit was organized in collaboration with experts Thomas Klomp, Floris Boogaard and Robbert de Koning, who added their technical knowledge, research, experience and boundless enthusiasm. Many thanks to them for their terrific input!

A REGIONAL GREEN BLUE PARK FOR DUBLIN’S NORTH CITY
Santry river restoration and greenway
REDscape is excited to be part of the winning team for the Santry River Restoration & Greenway Project together with its partners NOD engineers (lead) and Cbec. The team has been tasked to develop a holistic, nature-based design for the future Santry Riverpark in North Dublin. The river has a catchment of 15.64 km2, and stretches 12km from Dublin Airport to Raheny at the biosphere in Dublin Bay.
The landscape of the Santry River is to become the backbone of a green infrastructure project for the Dublin region. It will facilitate water storage, nature, amenity and active travel to integrate a programme of flood mitigation, restoration and sustainable mobility. It contains 12 schools, two commercial hubs, 18 sport clubs/complexes and will connect with public transport modes including a multi-nodal connection at the proposed Northwood Station for Metro North.

STORM BABET, A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME
FROM TOXIC WASTE SITE TO LOCAL PARK, Park de Punt, Leusden
The transformation of the former landfill site is currently underway to create an attractive green destination space for the Valley Park neighborhood. The design demonstrates how even toxic sites can be repurposed to provide useful green amenities for local communities. The site was a non-place for many years, but has now been transformed into a part of a green destination with walking paths, viewpoints, and seating areas for relaxation and play for all ages. Opening next week on July 5th.https://www.redscape.nl/portfolio/point-park-leusden-nl/

Marina Park completed! Phase 1 of Ireland’s first water park has been successfully completed
REDscape is delighted to announce that its design for the Marina Park for phase 1, in collaboration with our colleagues from Okra landscape architects, has been completed. As Ireland’s first water park, it plays a key role in the climate resilience of the harbor area. During storm surges and heavy rainfall, large amounts of rainwater can be stored in the park, transforming its appearance and making climate resilience a visible, living experience. Water forms the basis of the Marina Park design, and REDscape has designed the fluid movement of paths, vegetation, and waterways to evoke the former wetland areas of Lee. A piece of the former Agricultural Show Ground Building has inspired a central pavilion in the middle of the park, whose bold color supports the traditional colors of this wonderful city.
Mitchelstown Georgian Quarter. New heritage for today’s needs.
REDscape Landscape & Urbanism has won the selection to design the public realm for the Georgian Quarter in Mitchelstown, County Cork. The Georgian Quarter boasts an ambitious, historic layout that supports the city’s identity and is unique in Ireland. The area includes a large town square, a garden square, and multiple streets. The project is a collaboration with a team of specialists, including Tobin Engineers, Fox Moloney Engineers, Minogue Environmental Consultants, Repucon Tourism Consultants, James Bourke Architects, Archer Archaeologists, and Signify Lighting Specialists. REDscape looks forward to collaborating with the people of Mitchelstown, its stakeholders, and the client to bring this exciting project to a fruitful conclusion.
Vianderdomein, innovative ecological master plan for a former recreation area.
REDscape Landscape & Urbanism, along with Dingeman Deijs Architects, have been selected as finalists for the Call for Flemish Architects 004207. A master plan is being developed for the former recreation park “Vianderdomein” (approximately 11 hectares). The park was developed in the interwar period and holds many cultural memories for the residents of Tienen in Belgium. The landscape qualities and features of the park are still highly valued as a refuge in the city. We look forward to delivering an ecologically innovative plan in co-creation with stakeholders.
Public space master plan for two villages
Remote working is rediscovering the fantastic potential of small towns and villages to live and work worldwide. This comes with the expectation of sustainable mobility, a carbon-neutral economy, climate-adapted spaces, healthier lifestyles and a public space that works better for the entire community. REDscape has been selected to develop public space master plans for the towns of Askeaton and Bruff in Ireland. Two communities with a built heritage of 1000 years. Preparing for the future, starting now.
From garbage dump to local park
The history of parks is often a story of the recovery of contaminated or unused sites. REDscape has been selected to transform a former waste site into a community park in Leusden, the Netherlands. Initially the site was intended for a high-rise complex, but with an innovative design solution it will be transformed into a monumental park. We are excited about this opportunity to rediscover spaces and make them accessible to communities.
Planting trees to make our cities healthier
Healthy, green street trees are often not determined by what is above the ground, but what lies below. A lack of utility policy is often the invisible cause of unhealthy trees in our cities with meager trees and no room to grow. We wanted to address this issue up front in the design of our public realm for a new 250-home residential project in Galway, IRL. In collaboration with OBB architects, we have achieved a growth profile of 30-50 years for all street trees. Out of sight, but not out of mind.
Nature in the city
lecture by Patrick Mc Cabe – joins a panel of professionals organized by the Irish Wildlife Trust, to talk about the city’s wildlife and its plans to enhance Dublin’s rivers. March 1, 2021 at 7:00 PM GMT.
How you can shape the relationship between city and landscape by exploring the potential of rivers is very topical again.
In his lecture, Patrick will discuss the possibilities of flood protection to catalyze new green and red developments at different scales for the city. Based on his study for the Camac River, he shows how these principles can be applied more broadly to different cities.

Vision for a new dike park in Amsterdam-Buiksloterdijkpark
REDscape was invited by the municipality of Amsterdam to develop a vision for a 4-hectare park in competition with other agencies. REDscape has formed a team with Dingeman Deijs Architects and Sjef Jansen, Ecologist. The extensive assignment required a rain-proof solution for the adjacent high-density urban development of 2,000 apartments, ecological connections on the scale of the city and a program of new activities and play areas that fit in with the surrounding neighborhoods.
