Construction on Temple Bar Square begins

Combining heritage and sustainability

Reuse of existing materials is a cornerstone of REDscape's approach to the square and surrounding streets. The plan is mainly in renovated natural stone from Dublin Hestraat. These were originally produced in local mines over a hundred years ago, but were considered unfit for universal access. The city is currently in the process of removing the setts to cut the tops off and re-lay it as a level surface. The diorite stones have spectacular multicolored blues, green and gray tones. Our team tried to combine heritage with sustainability to develop a unique design with a reduced impact on the environment. The reuse strategy addresses the contemporary needs of a key space that is more than 22 million visitors per year.
