At the request of the Beemster municipality, the Environmental Federation of North Holland and the Province of North Holland we continue our study for the development vision of the Beemster *polder based on its intrinsic qualities. We have developed a methodology entitled the ‘Beemster building-kit’ to guide and direct all forms of developments in the polder from their initial stages onwards. This approach is centred on a cultural historical, social and spatial perspective of the Beemster polder and reflects on these inherent values to inform its spatial decision making process. We demonstrated this ‘building– kit’ methodology using two project themes, water storage and farm allotments. In May 2006 we were asked to proceed with the remaining themes, including infrastructure, new housing possibilities, energy and nature. The end result of Beesmter building–kit will be integrated into the legal spatial framework of the developments plans for the Beemster polder.
