A new park for Schalkwijk
- Cliënt: Municipality of Haarlem
- Team: Patrick McCabe, Antoine Fourrier, David Habets, Alexandra Zając-Kusiakiewicz, Hein van Lieshout, Mark van der Bij
- Year, status: 2013-2017
South of the Asia Road in Schalkwijk lies a wide green zone. It forms one of the green fingers that connect Haarlem’s green belt to the town centre of Schalkwijk. REDscape was invited to develop a design for the park to deliver a new impulse for Schalkwijk and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The plan extends the existing tree layer and has developed a new pathway structure throughout the park. A new waterway and crossing points form a central feature in the park and contribute to the water management of the overall district. New visitor features include a splash park, amphitheatre, hang spot and fitness points to offer extra activities. Bulbs and woodland planting transform the meadow edges into a blaze of colour in spring and summer. The park offers space for locals and the residents of the new towers (in the park under construction) to meet and recreate.
